I don't write reviews often, but coach definitely deserves one so here I go.  I am a USTA 3.0 player looking to improve my game.   I did a lot of research before choosing a tennis instructor.  I'm one of those guys who spends hours researching before I buy something; delving into the details to determine what's the best fit for me.

In the end, I chose Coach Mcclain and I'm glad I did.  The main reason why I went with him is because he can play.  There were a number of instructors I came across in SF, that although the seemed to offer a decent service, it was tough to glean their actual tennis experience.  For Coach Mcclain, it was easy.  All I had to see was that he played competitively on the college level at NC State.   Division I tennis is serious, so that alone let me know he could hit.   Also, if you haven't seen his YouTube videos on his blog, you should.  The best thing is that coach is able to take that knowledge and skill and break it down into simple, memorable techniques for me to remember so that I can coach myself.  

It was also very important that I had an instructor that understood and could teach not only the technical aspect, but also the competitive part of the game.  We spend a very productive hour every Sunday doing a combination of drills and game play.  He also works on my mental game, which at my level, makes the difference between winning and losing.  

After only three lessons with Coach Mcclain, I beat two 3.5 level players.  They were close sets, but I still won.  Thanks to the technical improvements of my game and the strategic and mental coaching of coach Mcclain, I am now a much stronger player.

He teaches players of all levels, and is very friendly and enjoys what he does.  He is committed to making me better, and so far has been a great partner.  I highly recommend him.
